The average gross domestic product (GDP) per capita in Egypt jumped in the first quarter of the current fiscal year, said the minister of state for economic development on Saturday 27/12/2008.
The GDP per capita surged by 23 percent in the said period to 3,430 Egyptian pounds compared to 2,785 pounds in the same period in the past fiscal year, said Osman Mohamed Osman.
Reviewing economic performance indicators, Osman attributed the GDP per capita increase to efforts exerted to improve living standards.
As for inflation, the minister said the rate increased to 22.4 percent in the first quarter of the 2008-2009 fiscal year against 8.4 percent in the same period in 2007-2008 year
