Demographic indicators of women in Egypt
 
  Population in Egypt is estimated to have reached around 92, 000, 000 in January 2013 (CAPMAS); growing at the rate of 1.91 per cent. Females represented 48.83 per cent (34, 839, 000).
 
 
Women in the Executive Authority
 
  Women in Egypt have assumed the post of cabinet ministers as far back as the early 1960s. The first woman cabinet minister was Ms. Hikmat Abu-Zeid, who took up the social affairs portfolio in September 1962.
 
 
Women in Politics
 
  For a very long time, women in Egypt have been denied their political rights. With the promulgation, however, of the 1956 Constitution, they were allowed full suffrage.
