Minister of Finance: Total insurance premiums hit LE 9.2 billion in last fiscal year

Insurance premiums paid by employers and workers in the private and public sectors reached LE 9.174 billion during the fiscal year 2007-2008, said the Minister of Finance on 4/7/2008. In the fiscal years 2005-2006 and 2006-2007, the figure stood at LE 8.8 billion and LE 7.5 billion respectively, Youssef Boutros Ghali said. As many as 1.8 million establishments insured their workers, Ghali said. Insurance covers around 10.3 million people, he added.

A total of LE 769 million overdue insurance premiums were collected during the last six months, the minister said. Public and private sector establishments and companies were relieved from fines totalling LE 29 million during the said period, he added.
