Meetings of the joint Egyptian-Iraqi talks will start in Cairo on Monday 2/11/2009 co-chaired by the Foreign Ministers in the two countries. The meetings will last for two days.
In statements on Sunday 1/11/2009, Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossam Zaki said that Egypt gives special importance to the Egyptian-Iraqi talks as Cairo remains committed to offering support to the Iraqi people and in view of the progress witnessed in bilateral relations on all fronts.
Iraq Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari arrived at Cairo on Sunday leading his country's delegation to the joint committee meetings.
He will hold a fresh round of Egyptian-Iraqi talks which he will co-chair with Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit.
The meeting will be the first at the level of Ministers after an agreement has been reached between the two sides to raise the level of the joint committee talks, said on Saturday 31/10/2009 Ambassador Abdel-Rahman Salaheddin, the Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab affairs.
A number of bilateral agreements and memos of understanding will be signed on the sidelines of the talks to further cooperation in the health, investment and oil domains, he said.
Abul-Gheit and Zebari will hold political talks that will address many issues of mutual concern; including the situation in Iraq, steps to support Iraq's political and reconstruction process and preserve its stability and unity, in addition to other regional and international issues with emphasis on the outcomes of contacts made on the fringe of the United Nations General Assembly as regards the files of Iraq, the Middle East and the peace process, he added.
Egypt's new Ambassador to Iraq is expected to start his tour of duty in the Iraqi capital in the near future.
