The National Council for Human Rights welcomed Egypt 's first international report of its kind on the status and situation of human rights, freedoms in the country and efforts exerted by the government to strengthen it. The Council stressed that Egypt had fulfilled its obligations and commitments in submitting during the two months of October and November three government, independent, non-governmental reports.
Dr. Boutros-Ghali, the Council Chairman said that the High Commissioner for Human Rights and international reporteurs will submit a report on their observations on Egypt 's implementation of the international observations and commitments to be annexed to the Egyptian national reports in preparation for discussion before the International Council for Human Rights in February 2010.
The Cabinet under Premier Ahmed Nazif approved on Thursday 5/11/2009 the government's report submitted by Minister of Legal Affairs and Parliamentary Councils Mufeed Shehab on human rights status in Egypt , which will be forwarded to the United Nations.
The report took four months to be completed by a committee under Shehab. It covers efforts exerted by Egypt in the human rights domain including amendments introduced to the constitution and executing related international conventions. Cabinet spokesman, Magdi Radi, said the report reviewed the constitutional, legislative and structural framework that aims to preserve human rights and boost political, social and economic reform.
