The governorate of Dakahliya is located in the Nile delta region, 128 km far from Cairo.

It consists of (17) cities, (2) districts, (111) local units, (369) villages and (2052) manors.

The cultivated area in the governorate is estimated at 647,000 feddans, making up 8% of Egypt's cultivated area.

Industrial activities in the governorate include cotton ginning, cotton and rice processing, flour milling, and textile weaving.
