World media reports live on election, Sept. 8

With a view to highlighting the integrity and transparency of Egypt's election, world media was allowed inside the balloting committees to report live on the presidential election process.

Minister of Information Anas El-Fiqqi said that live broadcasting services will be provided free-of-charge to all media until the results are declared.

El-Fiqqi said that complaints were received from a number of civil societies over the absence of inedible ink. Others complained that people have turned out in such large numbers as to make crowds in some committees.

In related news, reports indicate that women's participation has been relative high in the areas outside Cairo.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian television has abided by total neutrality in its coverage of the election. Equal opportunities were given to the candidates to explain their platforms to the public.

On the other hand, El-Fiqqi said that the press center is a place for media people, journalists and correspondents. It is not, he said, a platform, for candidates to air their views. This came in response to Al-Gad Party Leader and presidential candidate Ayman Nour's request to hold a conference at the center.
